DUE TO THE RISING INTEREST IN HARRIS LEBUS I HAVE ADDED A FEW PAGES FROM A HARRIS LEBUS CATALOGUE THAT IS DATED APRIL 1936.  THE LOGO WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND I ADMIT IS THE HARRIS LEBUS LOGO FOR THIS YEAR.  THE CATALOGUE CONTAINS 115 PAGES OF DESIGNS SOME PAGES HAVING UP TO TEN DESIGNS ON EACH PAGE.

The furniture manufacturers Harris Lebus was started by his father Louis Lebus in the 1840s when he arrived in Hull after emigrating to Britain.  Louis Lebus a German Jewish cabinet maker soon moved to London to grow his business.  Moving from premises to premises as the firm prospered by the 1890s they were the biggest company in the country.  In 1900 needing a further expansion they purchased 13 ½ acres in Tottenham for their new factory where they stayed until they went out of business in 1969.  They were a large and successful furniture manufacturers that produced some of their best work in the arts and crafts style between 1900-10 with some wonderful examples.  A wide variety of information is now available on line if you search the web.
