This is an Arts & Crafts Cotswold School Brynmawr Chest of Drawers c1925-39. It is raised upon a plinth base with two short over two long drawers. It has a very recognisable style which can easily be traced back to the influences of Ernest Gimsons designs. The handles are scooped out underneath where you cannot see with the stepped edges to the drawer fronts. The sides echo this design having steps aswell. A great and very rare piece.
The Brynmawr Experiment was set up by the Quakers in the 1920s following the economic problems with coal and the great depression with the coal industry being hit very hard. Paul Matt joined in 1930 and left in 1936 leaving Arthur Basil Rynolds who was already there as Designer and Manager.
